IPSLC is committed to supporting our community and contractors by providing various items and links listed below in an effort to assist them with their underwriting objectives that may not be currently understood within the majority of this industry.

The most common initiative is the need to prepare a written safety program that addresses the specific hazards associated with your business. This program should contain key components as addressed through OSHA, UOSH (possible your own state requirements), and other applicable regulations. Most of these basic programs are available for free at the following hyperlinks:

Utah State Programs                http://www.uosh.utah.gov/

Wyoming State Programs        http://wydoe.state.wy.us/doe.asp?ID=134

Next, a Job Site Hazard-Analysis (JSHA) should be performed at each location. The JSHA consists of a written risk assessment; which should identify methods of controlling, minimizing, and/or avoiding hazards and which should be prepared prior to construction activities. Once all the hazards have been identified and a plan prepared, this information should be shared with your employees, subcontractors, other contractors, businesses, homeowners, and neighbors within close proximity to the construction area. The intent is to openly communicate with all involved parties in an effort to prevent losses. As land space decreases, we tend to see more and more job sites in existing residential neighborhoods. Thus parents need to be informed of inherent construction hazards in order to educate their children so that your job sites are not becoming a playground for these unaware victims.

These are several of the key areas to assist you with underwriting efforts and any safety related benefits are merely a by-products of this effort.
